How China Took Over The GOP: Part 2. Family Corruption Inc: Why Kevin McCarthy Must Never Be Speaker
Are the Chinese paying for Kevin McCarthy's affair?
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Author’s note: I had been somewhat reluctant to write about Representative Kevin McCarthy, hoping against hope that that which I began in 2014 was no longer necessary. Surely, I thought, McCarthy would find other more remunerative work beyond politics but politics is all he knows since his college days working for the very corrupt Bill Thomas. Indeed McCarthy saw politics as his means to rise from middle class Kern County to become the most powerful Republican in the House.
Surely, I thought, Representative Renee Ellmers, McCarthy’s then-paramour, would exit stage left after her defeat and not elect to run again, but she has decided to run again now that it seems likely her old boyfriend is soon to become Speaker of the House. Will McCarthy endorse her? I wonder… Last we checked in on Ms. Ellmers she was upset that she and Kevin were no longer talking and even declined to vote for him. Ellmers was quoted in The Hill saying, “I can’t vote for someone [McCarthy] who doesn’t ask for my vote. I’m apparently not high on his priority list.”
Will this sort of thing play in the #MeToo era? Your guess is as good as mine.
Friends counseled me not to write about McCarthy’s mob ties or about his family’s corruption lest my writing imperil my own business interests but it profits a man nothing to gain the whole of the federal fisc if he loses his soul. My Boston childhood taught me how to stand up to mobsters.
Still others asked me not to endanger a supposed Republican majority but a Republican majority is not worth having if it costs the country and besides, I stopped being a Republican after I saw how slavishly they bend for foreign powers. I’m independent and I mean it.
A few of these friends were worried about my personal safety. The last time I was threatened with a lawsuit from Ellmers but I welcomed that suit — all but daring McCarthy and Ellmers to file suit — and nothing ever happened. I was telling the truth and I believe that America is still a country where the truth will out. Am I right? I suppose we shall see.
We live in an era of the compromised but I won’t be one of them. Que sera, sera.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s wife, Judy Wages, works at a no-show job for the California GOP, a rather moribund political party for our nation’s most populous state.
Naturally she got her job at roughly the same time that I outed McCarthy’s affair with Congresswoman Renee Ellmers and, as far as I can tell, was a housewife.
At the California GOP she supposedly raises money.
Indeed, along with Jeff Miller, a longtime friend of Kevin McCarthy and lobbyist, McCarthy’s family helps him raise lots of money for the California and national GOP. A company Miller is connected to — Ryan LLC — is purportedly under investigation by the FBI for public corruption. Miller is not a fan of yours truly and the feeling is mutual. (I don’t like people who sell out to Chinese-backed companies.) We may examine Miller at a later date but for now let’s focus on the family, to borrow a phrase.
I’m quoting from the January 30, 2018 article above.
California GOP officials stressed that McCarthy’s position is different: The money she helps the party raise goes to state campaigns her husband doesn’t have a hand in, they said. Judy McCarthy’s state GOP — not via her husband’s campaign, or by another federal committee.
Still, the McCarthy name carries considerable weight with Republican donors. Before rising in Congress, Kevin McCarthy was Assembly GOP leader, and he remains close with current state party leaders. Judy McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy did not comment.
Kevin McCarthy’s congressional disclosures through 2013 did not list any paid employment for Judy. They were high school sweethearts, and stories about the majority leader’s life in the district note that she worked with her husband on his first business, a deli he opened with winnings from the lottery. McCarthy later sold the business.
In other words, if you donate to the California GOP (or raise money for it) you’re paying Kevin McCarthy’s wife and putting money in his family’s pocket. If you’re a foreign intelligence operation this is a good return on your money.
Lottery winnings turned deli turned political life as the McCarthy story goes. Many years ago I checked out McCarthy’s claims about delis but couldn’t find any evidence.
One of my friends from the Bakersfield area told me that McCarthy was a part of the Mark Abernathy-Bill Thomas political machine. In his day Thomas was one of the more corrupt members and was implicated in several money and politics scandals.
The Washington Post’s 2018 fact check of McCarthy’s sandwich woes is worth reading in its entirety:
“The truth is, Kevin McCarthy has been a federal or state government employee for his entire adult life beginning with working in Rep. Bill Thomas’s district office from 1987 to 2002.”
…
…there are no ownership or sales records that can be located for a Kevin O’s Deli in Bakersfield, according to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. On Stine Road, only a sellers permit can be found for a McCarthy’s Yogurt, owned by Patricia and Thomas McCarthy, with a start date of Nov. 11, 1982, and a closeout date of April 30, 1989. (There is also a permit record for the couple’s second yogurt shop.)
The shop, with the name of McCarthy’s Yogurt and Deli, was sold to Ron Russell and Perry McMasters on April 6, 1989, according to the bulk transfer record. McMasters said that they made payments on a loan but after six months they returned the note because business was too slow and they could not reach an agreement with the McCarthy family to move the location. The shop never reopened.
You’re not supposed to ask for evidence of McCarthy owning a deli or ask questions as to his mob ties.
And you’re certainly not allowed to notice that he has installed a likely Chinese spy on the board of the California GOP, the same organization that pays McCarthy’s wife.
When someone else pays for your mistress they own you
Having a mistress is never as easy as it seems. They are expensive and demanding not only of your time but also of your largesse.
That seems to be the lesson of Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas who faces a tough reelection prospect and a federal criminal investigation now that “former top aides say AG Ken Paxton received assistance with home remodel, job for alleged girlfriend in return for helping political donor.” (The donor is Nate Paul who has a rather not credible immigrant story as recounted by Forbes. I’m told that Paul is backed by the Chinese who have played in America’s real estate now for quite some time.)
Could a similar dynamic be at play with McCarthy and Peter Kuo?
McCarthy’s political machine favored Kuo over other candidates and a report was prepared that shows Kuo’s longstanding ties to the Chinese government.
That report, which I obtained, is reproduced here.
Here’s the executive summary:
Does this background sound like the sort of person that should be working with the California GOP?
Kuo claims that he fled Taiwan in 1979 due to fears from the government. What fears were those? 1979 — the year the U.S. recognized the Communist government as legitimate — was quite tumultuous in Taiwan.
Here is Kuo next to Shawn Steel (and Ronna MccDaniel, chairwoman of the RNC). The Wall Street Journal reported that Steel was linked to an effort by Chinese nationals to influence the Trump Administration.
The politics of compromise and blackmail
Once upon a time I exposed an affair between Reps. Kevin McCarthy of California and Renee Ellmers of North Carolina and with those revelations, ended the chances that McCarthy might become speaker of the House. Or so I had thought.
Rep. Walter Jones, the late congressman from North Carolina, asked those running for speakership if they had anything that might bar them from running.
Jones recalled what happened to Rep. Bob Livingston of Louisiana who had his extramarital affair revealed by Hustler proprietor Larry Flynt after he decided to run against Newt Gingrich for leadership.
Still Livingston’s decision to run forced Gingrich from the speakership. Like Bill Clinton’s own sexual peccadilloes Gingrich’s own extramarital affairs were used against him, too, but his real compromise was with casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and his Chinese backing, a fact we have already discussed here at Thoughts and Adventures.
What went unmentioned by Jones was that Livingston’s departure paved the way for Congressman Dennis Hastert of Illinois to become Speaker — a position he held for eight years— and all the while Hastert was revealed to be blackmailed by Israeli and Turkish intelligence. Hastert was, is, a child molester and today he’s a convicted felon.
Though these events took place in 2015 they had far-reaching consequences.
McCarthy’s wife, Judy, rarely at his side, flew in from Bakersfield and he announced to the shock of all that he wasn’t going to be running for speaker after all.
Judy quickly got a no-show job working for the California Republican Party to the tune of $160,000 a year. And she wasn’t alone.
Her brother, William Wages, received at least $7 million in federal funding for fraudulently claiming to be Native American. (One wonders if McCarthy’s son and daughter applied to college claiming to be Native American, too.)
The Naval Weapons facility where Wages got that money? Why it’s named “China Lake,” fittingly enough.
Blackmail is a business model in Washington. It is a tool of foreign intelligence. And so, too, is seduction.
They start, of course, with your family and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is no exception.
His son, Connor, a Georgetown Philosophy and African American studies major, works at a tech company funded by the Kochs. Before that Connor worked for Joe Lonsdale, who counts among his limited partners the sovereign wealth fund of the United Arab Emirates — a country in league with China. Before that, Connor worked for Andreessen Horowitz which is heavily compromised by China.
Much of Silicon Valley is penetrated by China and McCarthy’s allies — Jeff Miller and Frank Luntz — are totally in bed with Silicon Valley.
Miller leads the push against breaking up Big Tech as Tucker Carlson relays down below.
Miller raised over a million in hard dollars — the record — for Donald Trump’s reelection.
Frank Luntz, who makes millions from his ties to Kevin McCarthy despite not being a Republican any longer, acts as his controller.
This has got to stop.
No more compromised candidates, please. We can and must do better.
Today McCarthy claims that he’s going to address the Biden ties to China and the origins of the coronavirus — every major intelligence service says it’s the Wuhan Lab.
More likely, he’s going to use the threat of these investigations to get the Chinese to pay up.
This is a common tactic he uses. It’s worked for years with the tech companies.
It is also a mob tactic. And it has no place in the People’s House.
I’m concerned an un-compromised candidate doesn’t stand a chance against the corrupt machine.
