This’ll be a three part (or more) series in how the Grand Old Party turned Chinese. We’ve hitherto explored how Ben Shapiro’s money comes from China and how Sheldon Adelson, benefactor to Newt Gingrich and Donald Trump, got his cash from China too. Isn’t it curious that Adelson took medical leave from his casino the day after January 6th?
We know already about Fang Fang and Feinstein’s driver. The formulation I’ve come to is that the Chinese deep state has compromised the GOP establishment while the Chinese mob has compromised the big city Democrats.
“Do you believe that China doesn’t already own Taiwan?”
The question has lingered with me ever since it was posed to me in the early days of the Trump presidency.
I’d been traveling in Hong Kong and my very polite interviewer asked me what I thought of the potential for war with America.
I said that it would be a tragedy. Besides, I added, “don’t the Chinese already own half of California anyway?”
He smiled. His name was John Yee but I was beginning to doubt that his name was John Yee at all. I finished my food and got the hell out of China. But China followed me back to LA.
Hours later I’d learn that my entire room had been torn asunder and the suitcase I’d left behind had become property of China. Years later I’d learnt that my trip and those who had arranged were, in fact, Chinese spies and their witting and unwitting agents but I’m getting ahead of myself and perhaps that is a story for another time.
Yes, I spent my twenties being recruited and then hunted. My thirties have changed the tempo of the game.
No, I hadn’t gotten the memo that our people go to Middlebury, or Carnegie Mellon, or perhaps Bowdoin. I hadn’t realized that I was soon going to be an unwitting participant in a many decades long war that existed long before me.
But where to begin in discussing these matters? This clash of civilizations?
When we talk about China’s relationship with the Republican Party it helps to consider early 20th century history.
Americans were so busy asking themselves “Who Lost China?” when Mao Zedong took over that they didn’t notice the underlying realities. The very compromised Senator McCarthy brayed about how the State Department was harboring communists and succeeded in reducing America’s “China Hands.” This was, I think, entirely deliberate and if not by McCarthy then certainly by Roy Cohn.
How much we ought to feel sympathy for McCarthy, who was likely a closeted gay, or how much he was a dupe, I don’t know and couldn’t say. The film Where’s My Roy Cohn? (2019) suggests McCarthy drank himself to death.
Perhaps it’s best to begin at the beginning of the last century.
We could talk about the Soong sisters, pictured here.
There’s been a movie about them, right around the turn of the last century, and they all went to Wesleyan College, that women’s college in Macon, Georgia.
And all went on to marry the most powerful men in the Chinese community. We are told that China is a very sexist society but anyone who has ever had any dealings with the Chinese know that their women make many of the key decisions, especially on economic matters.
So here we have one sister who was an official in the mainland (Soong Ching-ling) while the other was supposedly leading the opposition (Soong Mei-ling). Still the other sister (Soong Ai-ling) married the wealthiest man in China.
These key biographical details raise the question of why Taiwan was never invaded in the first place during the takeover of the mainland.
Indeed to this day the supposed father of Chinese nationalism — Sun Yat Sen’s Zhi Gong Party — is allowed to exist alongside the CCP. A funny sort of nationalism, that.
Not to be outdone Crouching Tiger actress Zhang Ziyi, ex fiancé of Vivi Nevo, is a member of Zhi Gong Party. You know, Vivi Nevo, that most Israeli of Israelis, who just so happened to inherit a bunch of money from his family and owns a lot of Time Warner stock. Did I mention he was a backer of The Weinstein Company too? He’s just an “international man of mystery” and not at all a spy.
How do you say controlled opposition in Chinese?
“Controlled opposition.” That’s a term that isn’t often explored. What does it mean?
It means that serious nations choose their enemies as carefully as their friends and that they work hard to shape their enemies’ internal affairs. China is a serious nation and they are shaping us from within.
The Soong sisters recall a current group of sisters today — the Chao sisters, who, along with their husbands, have ascended to the highest ranks of American and Chinese society.
A formulation I’ve come to is that the Chinese deep state is aligned with the mobbed up Republicans like McConnell while the Chinese mob is aligned with the Democrats, especially in the big cities. California’s cities in particular are being Hongcouverized.
Upsetting this arrangement is perilous. When Congressman Matt Gaetz called out the Chinese state’s penetration of our health systems and skies by Chinese drones Gaetz found himself targeted by Bill Barr who has his own weird connections with the Chinese.
If you speak out about all the Chinese money in Silicon Valley they’ll blacklist you from the best deals. This is the kind of silence that the mob buys. They don’t call it a PayPal Mafia for nothing.
Secretary Elaine Chao’s ties to the Chinese state led to a scathing report about her conflicts of interest. During her tenure as Transportation Secretary in the Trump administration, the department’s inspector general found numerous instances where Chao used her office to promote her family's shipping business. The Trump DOJ refused to pursue a criminal investigation into Chao. Perhaps we will have better luck with the Biden DOJ.
Wikipedia, interestingly, has more. The emphasis is mine.
Federal disclosures cited by The New York Times revealed a gift to Chao and her husband Mitch McConnell from Chao's businessman father James, valued between $5 million and $25 million. The company her father founded (and which her sister, Angela, currently runs), The Foremost Group, has extensive ties to the Chinese state and Chinese elites. It obtained hundreds of millions of dollars worth of loans from a bank owned by the Chinese state, has substantial interests tied to a major shipyard funded by and long-term contracts with a steel producer owned by the Chinese state. In what The Times described as "a rarity for foreigners," Angela and James Chao have served on the boards of a Chinese state-owned shipbuilder, and Angela has been on the board of the Bank of China, as well as the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (which was created by the government of China).
From January 2018 to April 2019, 72% of the total tonnage shipped by Foremost was shipped to and from China. The Foremost Group has almost no footprint in the United States other than its headquarters in New York. During the period when Chao appeared with her father at promotional events for the family company, the US Department of Transportation repeatedly sought to cut funding and loan guarantees for domestic American shipping companies, shipyards, and shipbuilders. These proposed budget cuts were rejected by Congress in a bipartisan fashion. Chao's Department also sought for three years to prevent funding for a program that supports the viability of small domestic US shipyards, and a separate program that issues loan guarantees for the construction or reconstruction of ships with American registration.
Think about that. The Secretary of Transportation was trying to weaken America’s shipping and port industry. Could that be why we are having supply chain problems? What a terribly underexplored question!
Could the Chinese be punishing us for getting rid of Trump, who owed millions of dollars to the Bank of China, and who they controlled through their proxies Steve Mnuchin, Steve Schwarzman and Jared Kushner?
Say, didn’t Wendi Deng, Rupert Murdoch’s wife and alleged Chinese asset, introduce Jared Kushner to Ivanka Trump? What a mitzvah!
The Wall Street Journal reports that Kushner was warned by US counterintelligence about Deng but he deepened the friendship. I’m sure he had his reasons: $$$
After all, his sister was all but selling citizenship to wealthy Chinese investors and his business partner was sued for fraud. Oh no!
The Chao family has also gotten heavily involved in tech too.
Angela Chao’s husband is Jim Breyer, who is himself a construct of the Chinese. Breyer’s name isn’t as famous, as say Peter Thiel, who also invested in Facebook early, but it ought to be. "He glides easily within and between circles: Silicon Valley, China, Europe, and Hollywood,” says Forbes of Breyer.
These days gliding isn’t so easy. The Biden Administration has expanded its blocking of Chinese companies in the United States. I support these measures and feel that they do not go nearly far enough.
Indeed, in my view, Biden should sanction the tech companies as this recent profile in the Australian press of Jim Breyer evinces.
Silicon Valley veteran Jim Breyer, who has close ties to China, says geopolitical divisions are especially harmful when trying to solve issues that affect the global community such as climate change and healthcare.
Mr Breyer started investing in China in 2005, the year he became the first venture investor in Facebook. He backed the then 20-year old Mark Zuckerberg, providing about $US12 million, including $US1 million of his own money, to the social network operator.
Rather chillingly Breyer predicts that biometrics and healthcare are going to be the go-to-paths.
“I started investing in China as early as 2005, after spending many years exploring the country and the extraordinary opportunities it offers,” Mr Breyer told The Australian Financial Review when asked about the Sino-US relationship under US President Joe Biden, and whether tensions between Australia and China might ease soon.
…
The total capital invested by private equity and VC firms in China reached $US290 billion in the five years through 2019, according to Cate Ambrose, CEO of Emerging Markets Private Equity Association, reported on ChinaDaily.com last year.
…
[Breyer’s] views were quite clear that AI will redefine healthcare services, where he invests heavily at the intersection of computation and medicine.
Mr Breyer said AI can help increase productivity and the efficiency of care delivery, and support physicians in diagnosing conditions through new and often combinatorial biomarkers such as blood, saliva or imaging.
“Digital health will not replace doctors, but rather better technology will enable doctors to spend more time in direct patient care and reduce burnout. We are in the midst of a healthcare revolution, spearheaded by technological advances like AI and new, patient-first business models,” he said.
China is coming for your DNA and biometrics. And with it, they’ll extend the social credit score over the whole world. It’s already begun.
What does China get for its money? In a word: Control.
In addition to supporting Facebook, which its protestations notwithstanding is very much a tool of the Chinese state and a weapon against ordinary Americans and peoples the world over, Breyer has backed GoFundMe, a crowdfunding company that has recently come under fire.
Crowdfunding has become the go to means by which foreign money is brought into our political discourse. (This also happens with Stripe, by the way.)
Sometimes that money is brought in through the payment processing companies. Other times it’s brought in through “investing” but it’s still brought in all the same.
We like to think that we aren’t part of the Road & Belt initiative but given that Silicon Valley has received over $300B in the last three years how sure are we of that?
This information is newly relevant in light of the news of the Canadian truckers.
When Trudeau bars Chinese-funded GoFundMe what he’s really doing is blocking Chinese capital from flowing in from abroad. No, GoFundMe isn’t “stealing” the money; they are the conduit by which the foreign money comes into the Canadian system.
How will Trudeau respond? Will he be like his father, Pierre, who also faced down lawlessness from the Quebecois who drew their inspiration from Maoism?
This is how his father responded. “Just watch me,” indeed.
It isn’t a coincidence that the most Chinese compromised Canadian provinces are also those that most vociferously oppose facial recognition.
There are other paths by which the money comes.
There is, of course, the way that GiveSendGo is used by the Chinese. We’ve already seen how the Russians use bitcoin to co-opt American nationalists.
To be fair to GiveSendGo and GoFundMe, sometimes the foreign influence can happen even without the platform knowing as happened to me. It is ultimately why I shut down my crowdfunding businesses. It freaked me out.
We’ve seen the ways in which these sorts of things can be used for evil.
Meanwhile Black Lives Matter is under investigation for millions being stolen. We are talking at least $90 million.
Could it be that all those protests were weaponized?
Like the Black Panthers before it, Black Lives Matter has been opportunistically weaponized by China against our country.
They’ve used our most tragic history against us. And it will work if we let them.
Queen of the “Resistance” has her own ties to China through Mossad.
This willingness to keep our country together is precisely why I have opposed Black Lives Matter (and why I continue to be shut down on Twitter by agents of China) whenever I reappear. Of course I like reappearing only to see who is shooting at me. It’s kind of fun. I’m not going to lie.
Twitter/Square cofounder Jack Dorsey, with whom I am co-invested in a genetics deal, once told me that he had never seen anyone get so mobbed by Chinese bot nets than yours truly. Could it be because of the companies I have cofounded?
Among those who have targeted me most vociferously is a woman named Stephanie Koff, a.k.a. Lincoln’s Bible on Twitter. I have never met this woman nor spoken to her but she seems to have it out for me. Koff is an interesting woman who has long running ties to Israeli intelligence operating in the United States.
For what it’s worth, I really admire the Israelis but it’s time for them to behave more responsibly and Ms. Koff’s scapegoating of Russia and banging the drums for war with Russia over Ukraine isn’t appropriate.
Perhaps I was not clear when I outed several Likud spies operating in the United States. I will continue outing Likud operations and operatives if they continue to target me online and elsewhere. I suspect Israel is learning that America is going to be a lot harder against China under Biden that it was under Trump.
Are you paying attention, Ms. Koff? You can have no conflict without yourself being the aggressor. You know what I am and I know what you are.
Koff appears to have been involved in buying the rights to a 1998 book titled, Powerchicks. Keep in mind that book publishing is a common way in which intelligence community controls or amplifies certain voices. That is, after all, how Robert Maxwell got his start.
It’s also the way in which you can launder money or move money to a candidate you favor. Note Donald Trump has made $20M from writing a coffee table book.
So why was Koff, a Democrat, buying the rights to a Republican pollster’s obscure book? Here’s the article from The Atlanta Constitution, dated March 2, 2007:
Weirder still Towery later became a serious Trumpist.
In any event Koff aka LB has her own ties to The Weinstein Company and was hired to write for the failed Netflix show, Marco Polo. Sure enough once it was announced that Koff was involved a bot net became amplifying and praising her. Take a look for yourself.
Now as far as I can tell, Koff never actually ended up writing for Marco Polo. She’s not credited anywhere except for a brief mention.
Maybe she would have done a good job?
Or, at least better than the other writers. That Marco Polo show was a $200 million loss for Netflix! Good heavens, Ms. Koff! What a missed pay day! I wonder how she reconciles herself to how The Weinstein Company took millions from China’s Dalian Wanda Group?
Koff has her own weird ties to China through Hollywood’s Jon Vein who acts as Koff’s handler. Interestingly Vein’s wife is Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, a talent agent for Julie K. Brown, who is currently being sued over her treatment of the Epstein victims in her book. Why is that, I wonder? Could it be that the narrative of Epstein as sex obsessed got it wrong? Or at least ignored the considerable intelligence ties? What else is wrong in the conventional assessment of Jeffrey Epstein?
In any event Vein sold a data analytics company to a government contractor for several hundred million dollars, which goes to show that he’s not your typical Hollywood schmoozer.
But that’s not what’s really interesting. Vein got his start in show business working for none other than Michael Ovitz’s Artist Management Group where he negotiated the sale of Ovitz’s company to none other than Steve Bannon after Ovitz and crew lost tens of millions of dollars.
Vein even defended Ovitz’s disastrous showing after the parent company of Vivendi Universal, Canal Plus of France, tried to audit Ovitz’s new company.
Bernard Weinraub and Anita Busch reported about the fraud in The New York Times on March 22, 2002.
“Money is missing — the facts are the facts,” said one executive engaged in the audit. “We’re trying to figure it out.”
…
Jon Vein, the chief operating officer of Artists Management, acknowledged that the audit was being conducted, but said, “Everything was done appropriately and completely above board and in concert with our partner, StudioCanal.”
In 2000, Mr. Ovitz’s company entered into a three-year venture with the production arm of Canal Plus, StudioCanal, to make 12 to 15 films. No films have been produced under the deal."
…
Mr. Vein, the chief operating officer at Artist Management, insisted that the company was not scaling back on its staff, but was actually adding managers. Mr. Ovitz’s company has no chief financial officer: the last two have departed. Mr. Vein himself has taken on additional duties that a chief financial officer would normally perform. (“Audit Adds To Ovitz’s Troubles in Hollywood,” New York Times, March 22, 2002.)
Huh. Seems to have turned out OK because Vein became a big donor to the Democrats. Here he is pictured with Hillary Clinton. Here he’s pictured with Mayor Eric Garcetti (who, I might add, should go to federal prison instead of India as a U.S. ambassador if his former spokeswoman is to be believed).
Stephanie Koff a.k.a. LB often condemns Steve Bannon but she’s oddly quiet about this Vein-Bannon connection. Why is that?
I learned about Ovitz’s ties to China thanks to reading about them in a 1996 article written for Wired by a young Matt Drudge where Ovitz killed a project about Tibet to ingratiate himself with the Chinese.
Michael Ovitz, group president of Disney, has spearheaded Disney's drive into China and visited the country many times, meeting with President Jiang Zemin in April [1996]. The Chinese government frequently attacks the Dalai Lama, calling him a "splittist" who seeks to remove Tibet from China's control.
As the Chinese try to destabilize us using the black community so too do we try to destabilize them using the Uighurs or the Tibetans. Makes you wonder: Why didn’t Donald Trump visit with the Dalai Lama during his presidency?
Try as I might I could never quite figure out why the Likudniks hated David Geffen, who broke from the Clintons and endorsed Barack Obama. Obama is, of course, from a CIA family, as we know from reading Covert Action and, I suspect and written, quite gay. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Other than the potential for being extorted like Governor Jim McGreevey, Speaker of the House Denny Hastert, or say, leader of the Freedom Caucus Jim Jordan.)
Now Ovitz is quite the mover and shaker and he fretted about a gay mafia felling him and removing him from Disney. After that, Ovitz’s troubles continued and his company, the Artists Management Group, was “in such upheaval” that he had no choice but to sell the company to Jeffrey Evan Kwatinetz, a very mobby business partner of Steve Bannon. Bannon loved joining the group, telling the New York Times in 2002, “I wouldn’t say it’s a clique, but people who join, have the DNA.” Whatever that means.
Naturally this claim of a “gay mafia” plot was condemned as paranoid but was Ovitz right?
Who knows? But Ovitz quickly found his footing once more as a dealmaker within Silicon Valley.
Ovitz boasts close ties to Facebook funders Peter Thiel and Marc Andreessen and Larry Ellison of Oracle fame and even tried to put them together when Palantir wanted to be sold to Oracle in 2016. Ovitz writes about meeting Thiel on p. 341 of his memoirs, Who Is Michael Ovitz? (2018). You remember that Larry Ellison also reportedly wanted disgraced Israeli prime minister Bibi Netanyahu on his board, don’t you?
When Bannon says that Peter Thiel is “full MAGA” what does Bannon really mean? Why couldn’t Thiel allies Jim O’Neill or Balaji Srinavasan pass a background check? O’Neill was a backer of SENS Research Foundation, which was headed up by the weird Aubrey De Grey who has his own issues with women and the Russians. Srinavasan was at Coinbase before being mysteriously let go. He also backed Ubiome, which was raided by the FBI and where the founders are still at large (though probably in Germany). It’s unclear, by the way, if Thiel invested in Ubiome or not. We might ask if Ubiome was a Chinese DNA gathering play but that’s for another time. For what it’s worth, it’s my contention that Balaji Srinavasan is a limited hangout between Silicon Valley and Indian and Chinese intelligence. (I suspect he knows that I know.) Naturally Bannon was right there, trying to put both Srinavasan and O’Neill into government.
We might also inquire into Bannon’s sojourns in Southeast Asia. Indeed Bannon’s ties to China go back quite a long way, back perhaps to 1980, when he was deployed to Hong Kong where he discovered mysticism whilst in the Navy. There’s a rather wonderful book about these nationalists titled War for Eternity: Inside Bannon’s Far-Right Circle of Global Power Broker (2020) by Benjamin R. Teitelbaum.
Bannon didn’t stay in the Navy long and that’s never really been fully examined but it is interesting to note that a lot of Bannon’s records are sealed. Teitelbaum goes to find some of those records and recounts this:
After leaving the Navy, Steve gradually worked his way into the materialistic lifestyle of the U.S. coastal elites. That began when he moved back to Virginia and, in 1981, took up a new job at the Pentagon in the office of the chief of naval operations while also pursuing a master’s degree in national security studies at Georgetown. (I once called the university graduate school to ask for a copy of his master’s thesis, and the woman on the phone replied, “You’re not the first to ask, and I actually can’t say anything to you. Like, not a word.” We sat on the phone in silence for about a minute.) He finished in 1983, and disillusioned with the bureaucracy of the military, immediately entered Harvard Business School. (p. 71-72)
Now I once thought that Bannon might be deep state himself but a conversation with the FBI has convinced I was thoroughly mistaken. Beijing Bannon is a traitor.
How then shall we think of Trump’s decision to pardon him after the January 6th coup?
Or how Bannon stays up on the top of the podcasting charts?
Might it be that China’s been helping him along?
And certainly don't talk about Bannon’s ties to the Zionist Organization of America, which has long been a focus of attention by the FBI and whose spokesman, Arthur Schwartz, has a very colorful past indeed.
Say didn’t Hank Greenberg, Schwartz’s old boss, do all sorts of work with the Chinese? I’m told that these days Greenberg and Schwartz don’t like one another.
That’s okay! He’s got new friends.
